Maybe the serial port is not a regular 8250 or 16550 UART. Try:
SET PORT BIOS1
Or maybe there is an interrupt conflict. Or maybe there are cable
problems. Etc etc etc.
For further advice, read the KERMIT.BWR file that comes with MS-DOS Kermit,
Section 6.
